How to search by category

You can easily search by types of opportunity using our category search.

Every item in our database has been given a classification, that means that you can search by across all of our tenders. The categorisation we have chosen is CPV – the Common Procurement Vocabulary which is maintained by the European Union.

On the left of your screen (or at the top if you are using a mobile) is what we call the filters list, a list of fields that you can use to help you find what you need. Individual search filters sit in ‘trays’ and can be open or closed using the ^ icons on the right hand side of the tray. By default the Open / Closed and Keyword filters are open so that you can use them immediately.

Scroll down until you see the Category (CPV) field and expand the tray using the small down arrow at the right of the tray.

Expanding the Category (CPV) tray will show you a search field for categories, where you can select the categories you wish to see in your results.

When you hit the drop down menu for CPV Classification codes you’ll be presented with a list of codes and a search field. You can use the search menu to search for an item that you might expect to see in the list, such as software which will reduce the list of options to those that include the word software. You need to be careful here, some entries include the word “except”, be careful not to select these entries by accident. You can select more than one CPV to widen your search and include more records in your search.

CPV classifications vary in breadth, broadly speaking the more 0s in the CPV number, the broader the search is, if you have only three 0s in the search, it is a very specialised search and will return fewer results.
